LET THERE BE MERCY: The Odyssey of a Red Cross Man

Pub Date: Oct. 24th, 1941
Publisher: Doubleday, Doran

A straight, journalistic visual account of Europe in destruction, as the special observer and public relations man of the Red Cross follows catastrophe after catastrophe, Poland, Finland, Norway, the Low Countries, France, Spain and Portugal. He witnessed exodus and tion, blind tombings, machine gunning of civilians, exile and concentration camps, bloodshed and brutality taking toll. There should be a sense of new angle on these events, but it reads like a too familiar story, and there is no particular lift to the telling.
