THE WORLD OF JOHN MCNULTY by John McNulty

THE WORLD OF JOHN MCNULTY

By

Pub Date: Sept. 19th, 1957
Publisher: Doubleday

A collection, from his three books Third Avenue, New York: A Man Gets Around and My Son Johnny, and from magazines of many McNulty pieces is devotedly introduced by James Thurber so that the inclusions get a little extra shading from Thurber's admiring, loving small portrait. Here are his barroom ballada from under the old Third Avenue El; his special articles on Ireland, tabasco, his heart attack, his mother's store, Native dancer and foaling time in Kentucky, and the chronicle of a jackpot winner; and much of the early days of his young son. Runyon is comparable for his delight in all kinds and conditions of men, O Henry for his love of New York City; McNulty however is his own man in these stories, sketches and autobiographical bits which are warm in their delineation of people, incidents and atmosphere. A nice catch-all for new readers and old followers.
