James Moffitt's second book of poems (his earlier volume, This Narrow World) has a considerable ingratiating charm. It is a welcome sign of a renaissance from the aridity of modern poetry, its introversion and perverse egotism. While there are many contemptize, even more strongly spiritual values here, Moffit's language is direct, and elegantly simple and the emotions evidence maturity, depth and scope. His poems reveal a free flowing lyricism of feeling and expression which traditional readers will find reassuring and rewarding.
