The setting is familiar: a post-technological galaxy where the humanoid populations have regressed by different evolutionary paths to pistols, axes, brigandage, slave-trading, and dim legends about their various origins. The protagonists are a freebooter from a race of canny opportunists and his servant, who hails from a world of dimwitted, downtrodden slaves. Smooth writing and some nice ideas, but the sequence of events is awfully butterfingered. Morressy should have a lot going for him when he learns how to lick a plot into shape.
