KIRKUS REVIEW

A wastebasket round-up of events contemporary and historical which took place along the Hudson--relieved by some pleasant photographs. Famous military engagements, former industrial and commercial uses of the river, skirmishes between settlers and Indians, excursion boating, river sports, and cultural matters are discussed in separate chapters. There are, predictably, regrets that land speculation and injudicious disregard of the Hudson's pleasant vistas have marred the river's recent history, but the anecdotes are too crowded and the guide book content too compressed to carry the message with any force. However, of mild possible interest to New York history buffs.
