A whole library of books is available in interpretation of the Psalms, which the author fitly describes as ""the spiritual treasure of all the world, the hymn-book of Everyman."" This particular interpretation contributed by the Professor of Old Testament at Drew Theological Seminary the author designates as ""a fresh approach."" It begins with the idea that the Psalms were originally cult songs used in close relation to the worshipping community. In his interpretations the author accepts the conclusions of modern German scholars such as Gunkel, but his own penetrating analyzes and deep insights into the spiritual message of the Psaltery give to this book a wider appeal. Old Testament scholars will find this work of especial interest, but preachers and others anxious to appropriate to the full the spiritual message of the Psalms will find it both stimulating and inspiring.
