KIRKUS REVIEW

A collection of short stories (published in England under the title, It Breathed Down My Neck) which combine narrative value and humor, fantasy closely allied to sobriety. The title story-and several others -- and a long short story, The Heirs, gain their points in their unadorned, well-managed prose, and make a play in the short story market with their double turns of fancy and plausible characters. Others show variously, ability to turn out a horror story that is catchy if not so good as it might be, or an amusing yarn that has real vitality. A pleasant, unstressed volume, uneven but worth favorable attention.
