GREAT MOMENTS IN FLYING

Both these volumes deal with their familiar subjects in an efficient introductory manner; the chapters are filled with enough of anecdote and of fact to make their reading entertaining and informative. The Great Moments in Exploration includes material on Marco Polo, Henry Hudson, Cook, Lord Macartney as Britain's first ambassador to China, Speke's two year trip up the Nile, Douglas Mawson's ordeal in Antarctica. British accented but not without interest and import for Americans. Orthodox drawings are by David Walsh... Great Moments in Flying carries a predictable series of events from the Wright brothers' successful efforts at Kitty Hawk to the breaking of the sound barrier in the Bell X-1.
