DINKY

By

Publisher: McKay

Four teen-age boys vacationing in an abandoned lumber camp in the Sierra Nevadas spend their summer degreasing and putting an old ""dinky"" or miniature steam locomotive and its narrow-guage track in good running order. The book is full of information that will fascinate a railroad buff and has some camping hints in it too. Sixteen-year-old Jerry Demarest establishes a relationship with his father, a brilliant mathematician, that far surpasses his previous feelings of inadequacy over inability of achieve more than a barely passing grade in math. The author began ending a locomotive engine when he was fifteen and writes with enthusiasm for his subject in all of its details.
