THE SUMMER PEOPLE

In the summer of 1939 three English families spend their last seaside holiday in an ambience of imperiled ease and innocence before the gathering international storm disrupts their way of life. Paralleling the larger, more remote threat of war is the pervasive sense that 17 year-old Philip's idyllically painful adolescent days are numbered; it's also general knowledge that the deserted cottage where secretly and chastely he meets his working-class girl is destined soon to ""go over"" the edge of the crumbling cliff. Public and personal history seamlessly merged with affecting immediacy.
