ATOMS WORK LIKE THIS

A short and efficient survey of atoms and atomic action by a British author of other science books for children emphasizes the benefits to be obtained from atomic power and clearly outlines the history of its discovery. With reference to the Greek notion of indivisibility and with clear definitions of each new concept from Dalton's time to the present, a good idea of atomic structure and action emerges. The discovery of radioactivity, first atom smashing, electrons, the bombarding of nuclei, isotopes, fission and so on, are seen each in relation to their states of being, their destructive uses in bombs and their constructive uses in power-giving piles. Fine reference for any age.
