KIRKUS REVIEW

A handbook on the know-how and art of puppetry with seven plays adapted by the famous puppeteer for his own use. There is a brief history of puppets in ancient and modern times, followed by directions and hints for the construction and manipulation of puppets and marionettes, as well as sections concerned with making stages, scenery and creating lighting effects. Diagrams and drawings will aid the beginner. The plays are delightful adaptations of familiar stories -- ""Jack and the Beanstalk"", ""Cinderella"", ""Pinocchio"" etc. -- and there are directions for achieving the special effects demanded by the action. Wonderful material for craft groups and schools -- this is a classic which should be on every handicraft shelf.
