AN EDWARDIAN HOLIDAY by John S.--Illus. Goodall

AN EDWARDIAN HOLIDAY

By

Pub Date: Aug. 14th, 1979
Publisher: Atheneum

In the pattern of An Edwardian Summer and An Edwardian Christmas, a wordless depiction of tranquil, uneventful days at a British shore resort--so constrained, moreover, as to suggest that the two children of the vacationing family are little models of submissiveness and good deportment. After days of picnicking on the beach and banqueting in the dining room, of meadow walks, croquet, and carriage fides, out little party does embark for a day's excursion to the French coast--which, however, is not going to strike American children in the 1970s as a very different scene. By comparison with Goodall's staid tableaux, Kate Greenaway looks Dickensian.
