THE HOUSE ON 9th STREET

Fanny Hutchinson, the 21-year-old heiress to a multimillion-dollar fortune, disappears after surviving an explosion in a Manhattan brownstone bomb factory. When her boyfriend turns out to be the head of a terrorist organization known as ""Youth for Freedom,"" the police realize it's going to be a ""stinker"" of a case. Two chummy New York Globe reporters, Magruder and Gantt, investigate, what follows is mostly unintelligible gibberish involving trigger-happy black nationalists, the Connecticut nursing home in which Gantt's wife Muriel is recuperating, and Fanny's wicked Aunt Sarah. A stinker it is.
