A vitally important book for the labor interests of this country. Strachey has analyzed the problem before labor, traced the history in broad terms in this country, but more specifically in England, has indicated the inevitable trends and shown the ways in which British labor has made mistakes which American labor can avoid. He then outlines a series of propositions for a sound program, which acknowledge that labor movements are incompatible with existing capitalism, and must accept scientific socialism -- or fail, it must succeed in the struggle against the conditions of life imposed by capitalism, or be destroyed by them. They must prosecute or abandon. There is no middle way.
