THE HOME OWNER'S TREE BOOK by John Stuart Martin

THE HOME OWNER'S TREE BOOK

By

Publisher: Doubleday

A competent ""can-do"" book for the householder who is having his first experience with trees, whether he is building in an uncleared space, moving onto property already planted, or starting from scratch with bare ground -- this educates him on dendrological facts of life. It is also an aid to cutting tree care costs and an adviser to the novice in dealing with high pressure professionals. From the top of the tree to its roots, and below, the physiology is explained in detail along with requirements of food and water; light pruning, minor surgery, repairs, bracing, care of cavities and flux, are discussed as are pests and parasites (animal, bird, insect and vegetable); there's material on rates of growth, height and price of various species; fruit (also dwarf fruit) and nut trees have their share of attention, as well as aging trees; the hazards -- and worth -- of expert attention when necessary is analyzed. There is an appendix for ""Shade Tree Evaluation"", listing and grading species geographically; there will be drawings, photographs and an index; there are recommended guidebooks and manuals at the end of each chapter. A handy, worthy addition for the home gardener's library.
