KIRKUS REVIEW

The latest entry in the growing list of The Compact History Series is an interest holding survey of newspaper publishing in the United States, and the outlook for the future in terms of the recent past (chain newspapers, 2 newspaper-1 owner cities, the news magazine weekly, etc.) brings the book right up to date. Sections on 18th and 19th century news gathering are well organized for the presentation of fact and dotted with anecdotes that bring to life the great figures described.
