KIRKUS REVIEW

This is a comprehensive annotated bibliography of American Catholic history prepared by a Professor of Church History at Catholic University whose foremost reputation for scholarship is unquestionable. Superseding his previous compilations, it will probably be recognized as the present indispensable guide for all students of American Catholic history. It contains 792 items arranged under the general headings of Guides, Manuscript Depositories, General Works, Studies in Diocesan, Sectional and Parish History, Biographies, Correspondence and Memoirs, Religious Communities, Education, Special Studies, Periodicals, Historical Societies. Introductory notes indicate areas under the separate categories wherein further research and writing have still to be done. All scholarly libraries, and every professor and student of American and American Catholic history should be in possession of this useful guide.
