Nice is the word for these little celebrations of the familiar (bicycle, fountain, rocking chair), little evocations of nature (spider, goldfish, moonbeam), little extensions into fantasy: ""The Interview"" (with a fairy), ""Silver Salad"" (for a garden elf). Each of the poems has a page and a picture (or two) to itself; some of the pictures are a mite precious (especially the gamin sprouting rabbit's ears) but they are attractively varied in layout and perky in detail. You'll recognize the genre from this sample. ""The Whisper"": ""'I do not believe in fairies,' The strange, strange woman said. 'They are bad for children, Nonsense in the head.' Only the wind Was heard to blow, And the whisper in the willows... 'Oh-h-h-h!'"" Not new or necessary but (like we said) nice.
