The poetic, mesmeric prose follows the sleeping zoo animals as they are wafted from their cages to freedom in the jungle. The short, wispy, subjective depictions are only moderately expressive in their imagery. The text is refined, but may seem affected to some. The illustrations, each in its own soft color, show the moving animal on one page and the sleeping animals on the facing page. While some suggest graceful movement, others are static. Sleepy-time reading for quiet children receptive to mood stories.
