What Daddy does to earn a living in terms of Mr. Fred Carter, who works for the telephone company installing phones. Mr. Carter is punctual, diligent and painstaking; in Gioia Fiammenghi's cheery sketches he is also very likable. Every month the customers pay the telephone company and the telephone company pays Mr. Carter--but why does he take home only $100 of the $120 he earned? Pause for an explanation of the income tax and social security, resume with the Carters coming home laden with packages, close with a detailed account (and accounting) of over-time and a plug for hard work. All this in a sensible, specific text and ingenious illustrations--a primer for the prospective working man that will work well in elementary economics instruction.
