In this overwrought Wainwright clinker, ex-Detective Superintendent Lennox (Dominoes) has just gotten out of jail after a three-year sentence for murder. In Lennox's thoughts--which we're exposed to at numbing, repetitive length--his town of Lessford is now in the hands of bad guys, headed by one ""King"" Kendal. And Lennox's obsessions are encouraged by his police replacement, Detective Superintendent Badger; so before long he starts recruiting retired cops for an unofficial vigilante group. Some vigilante success does indeed follow. But Lennox's obvious instability soon alienates his more sensible comrades--and matters are further complicated when some Kendal rivals take over the Vigilante label to execute their enemies. Gory, pretentious, and boring.
