PRIZE STORIES 1965: The O. Henry Awards

By

Pub Date: April 2nd, 1965
Publisher: Doubleday

The forty-fifth annual in this series with an introduction by Mr. Abrahams which indicates the fusion of the market (quality writers appearing in both little magazines and big without concessions to commercialization): i.e. there is no longer a ""typical"" New Yorker or SEP story- ""anarchy is in the air."" Also a resistance to ""schools and movements."" Flannery O'Connor's Revelation is the first prize in the 37 here; Sanford Friedman's Ocean the second, and William Humphrey's The Ballad of Jesse Neighbours the third. Other contributors include Carson McCullers, Mary McCarthy, Peter Taylor, Donald Barthelme and Warren Miller- these the better known.
