Even more than a full-scale creation, a minimal book calls for some imagination, subtlety, or style--all of which are absent here. A small boy, drifting into sleep as the snow falls, conjures up ""an old man/like my grandpa/who dances a jig/stretches/and arrives/at a workshop. . . ."" Since said old man is a jolly, cotton-bearded caricature (hardly credible as the grandfather of almost any small boy), the mere word ""workshop"" is a tip-off to what follows. . . and finds Santa, in short order, coming down the cottage chimney. About the size and substance of a greeting card.
