RUNNING SCARED

A likable, only slightly damp, chase adventure with a modicum of uplift. To a Cape Town hospital arrives the jovially fearsome President Bobo Lunda of an African republic. However, the ""Tiger of Gamba,"" in for treatment, is about to be kidnapped. By nice Yank ambulance driver Ernie Slade who is apparently dying of cancer and needs money for the wife and unborn child. Ernie pulls it off among the feuds and extramarital hijinks of the hospital staff. Bobo and Slade, both ill but growing in genuine mutual respect, fend off ambush, fire, illness, and trek weary miles as the ransom is paid while the police, Slade's wife, friends, and a demented assassin close in. The suspense is only walking scared but it's intermittently funny and appealing.
