From pre-dawn to dark night, a young boy's day on a farm is recorded in a few expressive lines of text per page. London (Hip Cat, 1993, etc.) captures the way children joyfully drink in the world through their senses, and their imaginative explanations for events as they see them: spoons sleep in kitchen drawers, a cat laps up moonlight like spilled milk. At the same time, the recurring phrase, ``The sun ticks/the birds talk,'' reminds readers that time is passing. The bold drawings have the naive look of a child's scrawl; these artfully complement the text. (Picture book. 2-6)
