THE CRY OF THE HALIDON by Jonathan Ryder

THE CRY OF THE HALIDON

Ryder starts promisingly with the materials for a sophisticated Graham Greene hoodoo entertainment set in Jamaica -- but ends as bloody silly as Ian Fleming. The plot has a blurred Elizabethan complexity in which an American geologist is pitted against a villainous international financial cartel called Dunstone which is being penetrated by British Intelligence which is being outwitted by Interpol while a Jamaican guerrilla organization from the hill country fights the Halidon -- a secret tribe whose wealth is matchless as the tribe fights for the rights of the world's underprivileged in Appalachia and Ghana by killing off members of Dunstone while also blasting away at Mafiosi in Vegas. What macaroni! Every stale heel and leftover gets stirred in.
