The translator of the Gosta of Geijerstam books tells of her own journey to Norway in leisurely, gently appreciative manner. Her parents had emigrated from Norway to America, to become Montana farmers. In youth, Joran broke away, and returned to visit the home of her people, going from Oslo to Trondheim to Byneset. The book abounds in bits of historical and cultural background, with present day life in Norway as she stays now in a rectory, now on a small farm, now in city, now in country. It is an inside intimate homey picture -- not a sightseeing guide.
