PICTURE BOOK OF ASTRONOMY

By

Publisher: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard

Here is an excellent science book for Junior High School levels -- and up. It answers just the questions that most children ask about the sun, the seasons and the solar system. It is lucid, without being oversimplified, and many adults find it worthwhile reading for themselves. The friendly, colorful prose is enhanced by Richard Floethe's really well-composed illustrations. The combination of cool blue, grey and yellow are in happy accord with the expansive quality of the subject matter. The high level of scientific accuracy is somewhat marrod by one unfortunate (but attractive) passage in which ""forests of Mars"" are described and illustrated, as if astronomers had really observed them. The book is a welcome addition to the field of children's science literature. Large, attractive format, well bound in cloth, illustrated in 3 colors throughout its 38 pages. Excellent school, library and gift item.
