This volume gives a unique approach to church history from the Catholic point of view. The story of each of the nineteen centuries is told in terms of the life, work and influence of one of the great figures of the Catholic world. Some of these nineteen saints are well known to all students of religious life, St. Peter, of course, St. Justin, St. Benedict, St. Bernard of Clairvaux, St. Thomas of Agine, St. John of Ara, and St. Ignatius. Others not so well known were equally interesting and influential personalities: St. Columban, St. A, St, John Beptist de la Salle, for example. The book should be of value and interest not only to Catholic students for whom it is primarily written, but to others interested in knowing the Catholic interpretation of the history of the church.
