A symposium presenting, through various authorities, several aspects of the far east today. We get China and the Manchurian situation; the weakening of the effort to Westernize the east; the development of the Oriental student from western universities as a factor in the East; the declining strength of the mission; Japan's problems of population expansion and new markets, with her tremendous strides in industry; Soviet Siberia and the problems it raises; a rapidly vanishing market for Western goods; the development of banking in the Far East; Oriental diplomacy, and so on. Pearl Buck on the mission question is probably your best sales factor. A book not for light reading, but a definite contribution to better understanding of the Far East.
