STREAMER FLY FISHING IN FRESH AND SALT WATER

In 1947 Mr. Bates presented the case for Spinning for American Game Fish with cogent argument. Now he shares his wide experience with other fishermen, making the case for streamer flies and bucktails as against wet or dry flies. He analyzes the psychology of the fish- what attracts him, whether hunger, curiosity, play or anger. He discusses the factors which make for proper selection of streamer flies -- thirty are as good as two hundred, with shape, action, quality counting more than color. He charts the hows of dressing each fly to pattern with care, of selecting streamers for the fish you want to catch, the water they like, etc. He tells how to fish with streamer flies- in fast water or slack, in salt water. He lists his own preferred streamers. The last half of the book takes each of the famous patterns, in alphabetical order, and outlines its history, value, appearance, etc.
