THE FARTHEST REACHES

By

Pub Date: Sept. 1st, 1968

The twelve contributing authors were asked to submit stories set in The Farthest Reaches of outer space and given the galaxies they had to work with, they were only moderately successful. The best are Poul Anderson's Kyrie in which a young human telepath follows a fiery alien to a death that she will have to live through a million times; John Brunner's Pond Water as man's computer creation conquers the universe, including man himself. . . almost; and J. G. Ballard's shadowy reality in Tomorrow Is a Million Years. Arthur C. Clark. Brian W. Aldiss, Robert Silverberg and Keith Laumer are among the old skywriters here but you might find yourself preferring something closer to home.
