This is the story of James Michael Curley, loved by Boston electorate over some fifty years. The late 19th century saw an increasing Irish immigrant population taking over from Boston Brahmins. Here is Curley's story against that background,- ward leader to Common Council, to Mayor, Governor, Congressman and Mayor again. The author holds brief for him, thinking him wrongly accused and imprisoned, and gives him credit for new hospitals, attempts at slum clearances, new highways, etc. There is a review of Curley's own opinion on his relation with F.D.R. A book that has the courage of its convictions, heavily weighted in favor of Curley.
