The ""spiritual studies"" contained in this volume are appropriate and inspiring Lenten reading. Dr. Newton is a broad churchman, liberal in theology, but positive and evangelical in his emphasis upon the deeper truths of the Christian religion, prominent as one of Philadelphia's best-loved preachers, rector of St. Luke & the Epiphany. Here he seems to share with us what is going on in his mind about religion. He writes about the role of religion in world reconstruction, about Jesus the light of the world, about the Holy Spirit, the Book of Revelation, the Resurrection. Always though he would widen the vision of man's eyes, deepen his insights, keep his mind stayed on the eternally valid truths and ideals.
