THEOLOGY BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW

This book includes the five lectures given by Dr. Joseph Hromadka, dean of the Comenius Faculty of Theology, Prague, Czechoslovakia, at Knox College, Toronto, in 1956. It is a challenging and controversial book, for in it Dr. Hromadka presents an interpretation of Christian theology which explains how he can continue to live and teach in his own communist country without coming into conflict with the government. He feels that Christians generally, because they have not understood the real nature of their faith, are largely to blame for the world wars and resulting chaos of our generation, but beyond that, ""Christian theologians and members of the Church have to look beyond all present political systems and ideologies, and resist any temptation to identify themselves with any one of them... The dividing line runs not between communists and non-communists; it runs between the Lord of glory and mercy, on the one hand, and human sinners on the other"". This ought to be required remedial reading for all who are tempted to believe that Democracy and Christianity are interchangeable terms and that what is good for the Western world is good for the rest of the world as well.
