For the boy who has his ambitions turned towards the Navy as a career, and for any boy or girl interested in naval exploits, this book should prove fascinating reading. There is no conspicuous drama in the manner of telling of these successive exploits of the American navy, but the material is drama in itself. The American Revolution, the war with France, the war with Tripoli, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Spanish War, the World War -- each offers its contribution to a saga of bravery, foolhardy courage in face of fearful odds, and success, unequalled by any other navy in the world. Definitely ""flag waving"" material, but good reading. And, presumably, good history, developing a phase of our fighting arm of which comparatively little is generally known.
