In this day of liturgical renewal it is indeed momentous for one of the leading Periti of Vatican II to address himself to what might be considered an elementary means for Christian worship -- the Church year. All who would contemplate the feasts and seasons of the liturgical cycles consequently are afforded insights and acute observations otherwise not to be realized. Theologian Rahner's pertinent, practical and readable view sees all the feasts and all the seasons in terms of the power to be drawn from Easter in which death and Resurrection, the Paschal mystery, the center, the heart, the core of Christianity are the basic focus. The eminent theologian's capacity for penetrating to the essential meaning of all subjects he analyzes is here as always. His disciples, clerical, religious and lay, will be richer for applying the master's observations to their own personal approach to Christian life as depicted in The Eternal year.
