KIRKUS REVIEW

Civil War in Maryland with Confederate sympathizers on the wrong side of the Potomac, suffering for their beliefs, as the family is torn by inner conflict and divided loyalties. The heroine loves a man with the Union army; while her family is loyal to the Confederacy; she foreswears love, and is victimized by their ex-overseer. Plenty of action against a background of conscientiously detailed accounts of local engagements and historical characters. A better than average novel of its kind.
