LAURA SARELLE

Horror story of the 1840's, upholstered to the period, a good job of its kind but not up to his best. The story of morbid Laura Sarelle, kept in ignorance of the family history by her scholarly brother, and held closely on the family estate. He blocks her marriage to the man she loves -- precipitates her into marriage with a fortune hunter -- and pays for it with his own death when she finds out the truth about the family scandal, and kills him. The man she loves finds out the truth and Laura commits suicide. Not what you'd call pleasant reading.
