KIRKUS REVIEW

The hardships of the opening up of the Oregon territory reflected through the story of Dave Logan, Nan Romney whom he loved, Mary Romney- her mother- a good woman but rumored kept, and Matt Strang who bought up the valley where they lived- built up a cattle empire. When Dave goes to ride for Strang, he finds he has to shoot as well, earns the resentment of the old settlers, and when Strang is killed by a nester, it is Dave who avenges his death... Relying on new material and new motives, this has a fresh feel.
