An appealing, authentic and unusual story of life in the Florida water prairie wilderness. Only ten-year-old Sammy loved Tiger, the wild bobcat terror of the region. Savage with enemies, and believed responsible for the death of stock in the area, Tiger was hunted relentlessly. However, it was Sammy who tamed the wild creature, feeding and talking to him as a pet. It is discovered at last that a panther, not Tiger, is responsible for the killings, and Tiger is rescued from death. Very little has been done with the life and habits of the bobcat, and the author's picture of the sleek, tough creature together with glimpses of the strange, violent life of the wilderness, makes an exciting and vivid book.
