The challenges and excitment of discovery link the varied material in this anthology. Discovery on every level -- scientific, psychological, aesthetic, social. Nonfiction, fiction, and poetry some excerpts, some complete -- are tied together by introductory paragraphs to each selection (or section of poetry). Some of the non-fiction authors represented are Sir Henry Morton Stanley, Anne Frank, Cornelia Otis Skinner and Emily Kimbrough. Fiction authors include Nathaniel Hawthorne, Jules Verne, Ray Bradbury, J. P. Marquand, W. Somerset Maugham. Among the poets are Burns, Longfellow, Coleridge, Keats, and Rosse. The collection is so diverse and the type and quality of writing so varied that there is easily a part for all, but it is doubtful that all will appeal to any one reader.
