THE OTHER AMERICA

This is a more mature book than Mabel Pyne's Little History of the U.S. but an excellent follow-up book on that. Once again, in pictures and successfully condensed text, the outline history of the country in question is told. The authors have brought their information into focus, so that anyone who wants a birdseye view of the intricate history of our neighbors to the south will find this a first step. First, from the days of discovery on to virtually the present, the history is sketched; then each successive country is summarized, with salient facts about occupations, etc. Accompanying the text at top and bottom of each page, double spread, the pictures (over 400 in all) make this one of the most effectively decorative books of the current season. The artist is Manuel Rivers Regalado. The end papers show the South America of the days before revolution; the South America of today -- in gorgeous coloring. Endorsed by the Pan American Union, with foreword by their librarian.
