THE STORY OF JOSEPH

This retelling of the story of Joseph adapted from the Old Testament is a superior place of work in its restrained style and dramatic development. The story follows the adventures of Joseph, the proud favorite son of Jacob, through conflicts with his brothers who are jealous of his father's favor and distrust his withdrawn pride, through slavery in Egypt to his final high position as High Treasurer to the Pharaoh and his reunion with the brother who sold him into slavery. The dreams and prophecies of Joseph are quietly woven into the story with no attempt to over-dramatize their mysterious quality. The dialogue while not authentic in the words used, has a ""long ago"" flavor.
