Sent to France with her prize pacer, Star, which is to be presented to the Queen by her beautiful cousin Mary, Polly Lawson was a confirmed patriot who always seized the chance to plead prettily for the cause of the American Revolution. The social and political position of the girls' families gave them entree to the diplomatic circles of Benjamin Franklin, Silas Deane and other notables. The life of the times and the conversation are authentic in an historical novel for girls that has its bit of romance for Polly who had set her cap for a dashing young ship owner. Well written and believable.
