THE NEUROTIC WOMAN'S GUIDE TO NON-FULFILLMENT: How Not to Get a Man

Joy Kennedy is That Cosmo Girl turned inside out and upside down. But give the kid a break anyway. She has a flipped-out wackiness all her own that keeps what is really a one-burner book intermittently boiling. The heroine of this advice manual to the self-destructive lovelorn is a masochistic man-chaser who will throw herself at anything exploitative and inconsiderate in pants, but makes sure that Prince Charming remains an arm's length out of reach. Kennedy sets up her hopelessly unliberated spinster with a checklist of false pretenses and unrealistic goals, and provides battle maneuvers with contingency plans for alienating not just ""prospects"" (as they're called in this sphere) but everyone in your life. Specific counterproductive routines are described, with a special section devoted to ruining your sex life. Read it aloud at your next all-gift pajama party, send it to your friend the perennial ingenue, read it and weep--with unabashed laughter.
