. . . but green is the grass on the other side, after Welsh World War II bride Elizabeth comes to Lepping, New Hampshire with her husband Tom. Except for an alcoholic spinster aunt, kind Gramps and the lively O'Neills (neighbors), Tom's home with his parents seems a wintry one and she yearns for ""her own sugar bowl and her own vacuum cleaner."" Elizabeth slowly adjusts and with her pregnancy foresees happiness with the childlike Tom. He is about to take the manly step of continuing his education at Harvard. But he reneges and she falls in love with Mike O'Neill and finally flees to Wales. But the good Lepping women have their say while over there her ""Grancher"" reinforces it with many a ""fach"" -- namely the need for her to return to Tom. Pine Tar soap.
