KIRKUS REVIEW

Another in the Master Drawings series of the Harper Art Library- a fine piece of book making, and a contribution to our knowledge in a field of art where a few names (Rembrandt, Hals, Vermeer, etc.) are known chiefly through other media. There are reproductions of some 57 drawings, including distinctive work by lesser lights as well as these masters. There is an introductory historical and biographical sketch, and discussion -- paragraph by paragraph- of the individual drawings, notes on plates, and importance of the medium in the 17th century- and today, for its revelation of a phase of the life.
