A husband and wife team, experienced psychotherapists, have applied the concepts of modern dynamic psychology over the years, both in analysis and group therapy, with cons success. Out of these years of practical application of theory this book has been a natural growth. As one reads, one is taken into the lives, the personalities, the problems of many who have faced up to problems threatening their marriages. And the result is the sort of book that is badly needed, basically rooted in scientific, professional knowledge and understanding, supplemented by a very human approach, and presented so that the layman can take from its pages these aspects that are applicable to their own problems. The style is informal but never casual. The authors approach all phases of marriage from courtship through the initial periods of adjustment, to the changes that come with parenthood, activities, emotional upsets, illness, in law problems, financial problems, and so on. And they back of the immediate issues for the foundations on which development is based, the points at which long buried causes need to be faced. This is a constructive book; each step points to mature adjustments based on understanding of self and the partner. Problems are set in contest, and emerge in proper proportion. This is an important contribution to guidance, which should prove invaluable for physicians, marriage counsellors, individuals all concerned is a balanced approach to marriage.
